The word Hindu came from the word Sindhu which meant those who lived on the other side of the Indus river. The Persian pronounced the Sindhu as Hindus , and all people living on the other side of the river Sindhu were called by them as Hindus
Hindu as per modern definition, is a person who is adherent of the philosophies and scriptures of Hinduism, the religious, philosophical and cultural system that originated in the Indian subcontinent. as per modern definition, is a person who is adherent of the philosophies and scriptures of Hinduism, the religious, philosophical and cultural system that originated in the Indian subcontinent.
The above details are not wriiten by me. It is what I found in internet describing a "Hindu". I call myself a Hindu. Officially my religion is Hindu Religion. But who is a Hindu?
What I understood is from the definition is that there is no such religion in real. Even the Indian Supreme court says " Hinduism is not a religion with one God or one Holy scripture. The practices of Hindus vary from region to region, place to place, The Gods worshipped, the customs, traditions, practices, rituals... all differ. Yet, all these people are Hindus". How ?
To me, Hinduism is not a single religion. You may ask why?
The definition of Religion is either of the following:
1. a. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
b.A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
2.The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
3.A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
4.A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.
None of the above fits good enough to call Hinduism as a single religion. The concepts followed or so disparate and contradictory among the various sects, that no one can call them as conforming to one religion.
Then why we call all of us belonging to Hindu Religion?
That is a question I would like to ask. May be some one will have a convincing answer.

US AfPak strategy- Why it is doomed to fail?
Any one fighting a war without knowing who and what is his enemy has only one destiny. FAILURE.
Who are these Taliban? Where from they are coming? Who feeds them and trains them?
The answer to these is a four letter word. ARMY
No prizes for guessing which Army is being referred to..
The terrorists are just hired killers... They are just pawns in a power game planned at Rawalpindi... Americans want to trace these Taliban mercenaries and kill them in the treacherous ravines of Afghanistan... Quite a costsly and foolish attempt in terms of economic costs as well as human lives. More over it is like treating the symptom than the disease.
Smarter move shall be to confront their protectors... You may need nothing more than a realistic understanding of the real enemy... The disease called Pak Army...
What we all fail to notice is that Today's Pakistan is nothing but the army. They control the industry, press, government, policy and everything else. It has its own agenda for furthering its power. Today, the Sonia Gandhi principle of power management is not just copied by some corporates, but also internalised by the Pakistan army. That is why Gen Kayani has no need for coup. And that is precisely why no one raised an eyebrow when he got a three year extension as Army Chief. However, in the bargain, instead of being the country's protector it has become a parasite of the country. Pak army is feeding on Pakistan. We need to recognise that first.
Today Holbrooke and Hillary are trying to use the carrot and stick strategy to convince Kiyani. The idea is to get the Pak Army to kills its own mercenaries... in return they get some bit of cash and weapons to fight India... While India is becoming more and more closer to US and gettting bigger and bigger economically..
Does not look like a bright idea to the General while he knows his Chinese friends are likely to become another super power in future...
The only way to handle the Pak army is to cut them to size. Then probably we can handle them better. This is the classic problem solving technique. If you cannot solve the problem, split it into smaller manageable ones. That can only be possible by dismembering Pakistan may be into three or four countries like Sindh, Punjab, NWFP.
Any One listening?
